Cristiano Ronaldo was born on the 5th of Feb. 1985, in a renowned part of Madeira, Portugal. His parents, Jose Dinis Aveiro (father) and Maria Delores dos Santos Aveiro (mother) were industrious citizens of Portugal who worked diligently to earn a living and cater for the family.
Ronaldo’s father was a gardener, while his dear mother was a professional chef. Out of four children, two boys and two girls, Ronaldo was the last child to be born.
Although Ronaldo’s parents were hard workers, they could barely provide sufficiently for their children. Mr Jose, his father, would work extra hours with the municipality, yet he couldn’t realize adequate income to give his family a luxurious lifestyle. His wife, on the other hand, was a hardworking and talented cook. However, she couldn’t secure a lucrative job, despite the countless times she tried to. Ronaldo was born into a needy family.
Growing up wasn’t a flawless and effortless experience for Ronaldo. He had to battle depression, numerous heartbreaks, and low self-esteem. During his high school days, he always had a dispute with his teacher. Perhaps, his teacher was intimidating, thereby making Ronaldo’s learning process an uneasy one. A particular day came when Ronaldo, in anger and frustration, threw a chair at his teacher. This act was tagged an assault; thus, he was expelled from the school.
In 2005, Mr Jose, Ronaldo’s father, breathed his last and left the family for good. His death was a devastating occurrence that gave way for derailment and pain in the lives of Ronaldo and the rest of the family. Amid these puzzling circumstances, Ronaldo was passionate about soccer and had been playing the game on the streets with friends. Fortunately, in 1995, he signed with local club national, a football club where his distinct potential was first discovered. This was exactly a decade before his father’s death.
Years into the football career, Ronaldo’s name was on the lips of people, which attracted the attention of an English club, Manchester united. Manchester United offered him a contract, which he accepted and maintained for six years. Throughout his years playing for Manchester United, Ronaldo’s name was famously recognized in most parts of the world. He won several trophies for the club, and his fan base grew rapidly. Later on, he moved to Real Madrid where he broke significant goal scoring records and also led the team to win important trophies.
Currently, Ronaldo plays for Paris Saint Germain (PSG), and he’s considered to be one of the most trendy soccer players sealing endorsement deals with top brands.
The story of Cristiano Ronaldo is a very significant and relatable one today. As someone who emerged out of wretched family background and poor environment, there was virtually no hope of succeeding in life.
The greatness he has today was uncertain then. But despite his uncertainties, Ronaldo was optimistic and positive about the future. Although he was once depressed and suffered from an inferiority complex, yet he leveraged on all the challenging scenarios to build up a motivation for himself.
Life doesn’t come smiling at you. It bombards you with varieties of difficulties and then leaves you to sort yourself out. One thing you should always have in mind is, no matter how complex a puzzle seem, there’s always a tactic to fix it, as long as you keep trying relentlessly.
Christopher Reeve said, “Once you choose hope, anything is possible”. This statement buttresses persistence. Thus, no matter how difficult a goal is, when you refuse to lose hope or give up, you will realize that particular goal.
Remember, Walt Disney said, “the difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting”. Hence, you should entirely refrain from thoughts of giving in or quitting if you want to achieve success eventually.
Also, you must know what you’re created to become. That is, find your primary purpose in life and chase after it. Cristiano Ronaldo was sure of his destiny, playing soccer. And he didn’t allow anything else to move him off course.
Henry Ford said, “The whole secret of a successful life is to find out what is one’s destiny to do“.
Your time is now. Relentlessly fight your way to success regardless of the circumstance.
